Abstract
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to assess the degree of presbyopia symptoms and awareness of eye health care in middle-aged adults and to evaluate the factors that affect eye health care awareness.

Methods : An online survey was conducted targeting middle-aged adults in their 40s (40-49 years). For the questionnaire, seven questions related to presbyopia symptoms and nine questions related to awareness of eye health management were asked to respond from 1 point of 'not at all' to 5 points of 'very much so'. General characteristics were presented as mean¡¾standard deviation and frequency (%). Presbyopia symptoms and perception of eye health care according to general characteristics were compared using independent sample t-test and ANOVA analysis. Multiple regression analysis was used to evaluate the factors affecting eye health management awareness.

Results : The average age of the subjects was 43.94¡¾2.41 years (range: 40-49 years). Among the symptoms of presbyopia, eye fatigue increased when looking at a smartphone or book (24.1%) and difficulties in reading small text (15.3%) were the most common. The rate of agreement for ¡®Correction is possible with glasses or contact lenses' and 'The ratio of indoor and outdoor activities should be 1:1' was 54.7% and 42.9%, respectively, indicating a low degree of recognition. As a result of comparing presbyopia symptoms according to general characteristics, significant differences were shown based on educational background, subjective health status, and subjective eye health status, and eye health management awareness showed significant differences based on interest in eye health management. It was found that presbyopia symptoms had a significant effect on eye health care awareness.

Conclusions : Eye health care awareness according to presbyopia symptoms is related, so it is necessary to find ways to improve presbyopia symptoms in order to improve eye health care awareness in middle-aged adults.
